Farewell to Summer by FractalEyes Farewell to Summer by FractalEyes
UF 5.03; RealDrawPRO 5

This was going to be my entry in the #AllThingsFractal contest. However, while patience may be a virtue, it is not one of the many I possess (I do possess many no matter what anyone says :threaten:) The contest doesn't start until August 15 but I finished this last night, played with it some more today, re-rendered it and now here it is. I'll just have to come up with something even better for the contest.

    **edit**

=Mythos721 was absolutely right about the weird border on the previous version of this so I had to change it. I did tone the textures down a little but any more and it started to look too flat and I do luffs teh textures too much. Moar texture! :la:

I don't think I've ever rendered a fractal more times than I have this one. :faint:

Critique by Mythos721 Aug 10, 2010, 1:59:40 PM
One the first fractal critiques in a while!

To start off, I'll give this a 4 out of 5 stars for Vision. It's uncommon for a vertically-oriented fractal to make it's way to my inbox. And that being said, this is a good example of one.

I give it a 4 out of 5 for Originality. In my mind, fractal art is a difficult genre of art to be truly "original." The way I see it, almost everything in fractal art is in some way, based off of a previous submission. And this fractal is not exception. However, the circle in the dead-center of the fractal isn't something I've seen before and adds a nice touch to this render.

I give it a 3 out of 5 for Technique. It is easy for me to say that I find a few things that bug me about this fractal. The colors, imho, really clash in an un-fashionable way. And it seems that is too much texture, and the texture that is there appears too "intensified." The last thing that bothers me is the uneven borders on the sides. That dark line going down the left-hand side really pulls my eyes away from the subject matter and doesn't settle well in my mind.

Lastly, I give it 3.5 out of 5 for Impact. The amount of detail in this render is inspiring and even though texture was overused in this, it still adds a nice touch to the overall presentation. The only things that I would suggest would be: keep it even, don't "over-exaggerate" textures, and work on colors.
What do you think?

I like the shape very much!Would you like to tell me how many layers did you use in this work? Thanks!

I used between 65-70 layers including masks; I was a bit shocked when I counted to find that I had 17 layers in the background. Being able to use groups in UF 5 has made it much easier to deal with so many layers.

Thank you for your great comment and for the :+fav: :sun:

I must say, I like this because of some of the issues that :iconmythos721: had with it...
I love the colors - they aren't autumny, but that's ok cuz it's pre-autumn...
I also like the opposing symmetry of your frame, it doesn't overpower the image if I don''t let it & I'm kind of a asymmetry freak...
love how the texture & the image sort of glomn together, which accents both!
I don't usually have this much to say, but this fractal really impressed me!!!

I really appreciate your comment though I do have to say that =Mythos721 was right about the border. His critique was on the original - [link] and I just had to change it. I am much happier with this version. I didn't agree with his comments about the colors; I'm pretty confidant in my color choices. As for texture, I suppose it is possible to overdo it but I usually like a lot.

my pleasure...
the thing about art, is there's no right or wrong, just what the artist says here is the finished piece & what each viewer personally perceives when looking at it...
for things like, color, texture, it's a matter of taste, really...
anyway, keep up the gr8 work!!!

and hello to autumn (or fall if you prefer) so long the warm happy colours and hello the wonderful rustic colours that dies away to the cold and beautiful colours of winter. It has a really metal feel about this but the strange almost marble texture makes it appear slightly more natural if that makes sense. all the objects seem like scattering leaves falling to the ground in the winds that blow away the summer colours!
